About Us

The Harpenden Sinfonia is an amateur orchestra that was started in 2023 as a way to enable people to enjoy playing larger-scale classical works, but without the commitment of regular weekly rehearsals. The format of the rehearsals will be over the course of one day, with a full run-through of the work at the end. We have grown in membership and have a large number of regular players who are committed to taking parting and helping to grown the orchestra. Since our initial play day, we have increased the type of events that we offer to include chamber music and musical theatre as well as the complexity of the music. We believe that there shouldn't be a barrier to working on some of the greatest music. Plus for the 2025/2026 season we are aiming to put on a concert with the proceeds going to a local charity. Classical music should be accessible for all. There are no set seats or players, so please feel free to sign up for any of the play days. We welcome members/players who would like to tackle significant pieces of music, without the pressure of a concert performance. We aim to involve the players in the choice of repertoire for future rehearsals and play throughs. This has been successful and our current season is largely based on repertoire chosen by the members. So, please get in touch if you are c. Grade 6+ and have had some ensemble playing experience. If you would like more information about the Harpenden Sinfonia, either as a player, or volunteer, please contact us.
